Bed Supper Club Bangkok: Sukhumvit nightlife
It’s a visually arresting, sensory stimulating, theatrically-imbued, gastronomic experience that starts at 8:30pm and isn’t the same twice. An evening aboard Bed Supper Club Bangkok begins by climbing up the ramp-style staircase of the space-age capsule (a giant Hollywood searchlight in the Sukhumvit nightlife district) and into the all-white futuristic pod where two levels of lounge beds extend from the shell. Neon & multimedia projections paint the blanc interior with indigo, fuchsia & lavender, transforming it into a stage where spectacles unfold while attendants deliver gourmet dinners to guests in bed! Fusion cuisine by chef Dan Ivarie; cocktail mixology by Justin Dunne; hip-hop, house, Latin and funk music by A&R director Fred Jungo and over a dozen resident DJs.

The surprise menu at Bed Supper Club Bangkok
The bizarre custom-built “spotlight” architecture and sleek, ultra-modern, minimalist designer lounge with a neon enhanced avant-garde theatrical ambiance is what’s initially striking about the Bed Supper Club, but the multi-course gastronomic feast that appears like magic at bedside tables has been hailed by critics as superior to the design, décor, atmosphere and even the performances. Unlike luxury lounges and elite dance clubs in Bangkok, the Bed serves “supper”, which is why the eclectic culinary talents of award winning chef Dan Ivarie have become an essential element of the club’s entertainment (although the experience depends on what night you visit).
Sunday to Thursday the menu choices change yet always include gourmet Thai cuisine and international fusion dishes, which can be ordered à la carte from the chef’s personal evening selections – an appetizer with cocktails, an entrée, dessert or a complete three or four-course meal – it’s your choice. But, on Friday & Saturday night the Bed and Supper Club Bangkok is quite a different place, with a “surprise” 4-course meal designed by the chef to engage the senses, satisfy the appetite and… entertain. It’s a banquet that comes automatically as you recline in bed. Just arrive at 8:30 and join other supperclub diners, each in their respective beds, and… may the show begin! The bed supper club officially asks guests to “remove their shoes”, “expect the unexpected” and “keep an open mind”, which might sound like code for ‘at your own risk’, but don’t worry. Although the weekly menu is impossible to predict, it’s not the kind of place where surprises include sautéed wasp larvae (see Mor Mu Dong Phuket Restaurant for that type of Thai cuisine), but instead serves refined dishes. Examples include: Japanese shiso tempura, Kobe (Wagyu) sirloin beef skewers, baby-back ribs with tamarind sauce, Australian beef tenderloin with brandy cream sauce, roast duck and mushroom risotto with foie gras cream, sea bass and green mango salad, Maine lobster with pasta in a saffron-wine sauce, and salads like fresh fig & mixed greens with walnut-raspberry vinaigrette or greens with tuna sashimi wontons and soy-mustard dressing. Although many of the recipes have a basis in northern Thai cuisine, international influences are seen in the quality of imported meats (from Japan, Australia and New Zealand) and seafood, like black mussels from Spain, but what makes the dishes unique are the Thai twists. Since the surprise menu also includes desserts, expect fusion treats like cardamom panna cotta with orange ice-cream, white chocolate wasabi ice-cream and sweet basil sorbet with berries & herbs.
There’s another way of savoring the Supper Club Bangkok menu, and that’s by booking a party of 12. Receive VIP service and a complete meal for each person; the 3-course option (around 1,000 baht per person) or the 4-course menu (about 1,500 baht each).
The bed supper club isn’t just about “supper”, it’s also about cocktails that are exclusive to Bed, designed by in-house bartenders under general manager Justin Dunne’s direction. Like the food, drinks change with the themes (and Thailand’s seasons). Many of the cocktails are designed around tropical fruits and local Thai products. Drinks are infused with in-house syrups, sorbets and herbal extracts as well as international liqueurs. Although well-known cocktails are available, the specialties are Bed Supperclub exclusives; not surprising since Justin Dunne is a drink mixologist, winner of bartending competitions and the author of a cocktail book called, “Tipple Thai” with 73 drink recipes based on Thai herbs & fruits.
Bed isn’t one of the average clubs in Bangkok. It’s amongst the best nightclubs in the world, right up there with the Bed Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles & San Francisco. For some critics, the supper club Bangkok, open since 2002, represents the most exotic version of them all.
DJs behind the scenes of the best club in Bangkok
The supper club Bangkok lounge with beds where dinner is served, is separated from the dance zone by white sliding doors. It’s behind these doors that some of the world’s most popular DJs spin their magic. And magical it must be because clubs in Bangkok don’t play second fiddle when it comes to delivering state-of-the-art sounds to a demanding and well-seasoned party crowd. To be listed as the best club in Bangkok takes what the Bed has done, namely: lined up over a dozen of the top international & Thai DJs and offered them residency in the high-tech booths where they produce varied musical rhythms from Tuesday through Sunday.
A&R director Fred Jungo, responsible for artists and repertoire at the Bed Club Bangkok, has chosen an impressive dance-based line-up of turntablists, music producers and resident / regular guest DJs including: Andrea Bertrand – featured at the Bed on weekends but also about town at Koi, Black Pagoda, Glow and at the hottest Chiang Mai parties; DJ Ben – playing funk, deep house, jazz and soul on Wednesday & Sunday nights; Eddy Frampton – with soul-soothing textured soundscapes at the Bed Supperclub on Wednesday and Friday, and head resident DJ Fred Jungo himself with his unique Big Room House music and contagious dance-floor mixes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Mondays and Wednesdays, catch DJ Just (originally from the UK) and his eclectic musical style including hip-hop, Latin & soul as well as dancehall and dubstep mixes. Regular guests include music re-mixer, producer and DJ: Kingkong who also plays at Demo, Astra and Club Culture; and one of Bangkok’s favourite DJs, now a resident at the Bed and Supper Club Bangkok: DJ Knatz. Lazykay joins the Bed party after 10 years at nightclubs in Istanbul, Marrakech and throughout Europe with his own style of sexy house. The Bed has female DJs like Mary Jane from Belgium and DJ Orawan (known in New Zealand / Southeast Asia) now a resident at the Bed with special Drum & Bass nights on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Amongst other talents are DJs Master D, Mikey Mike, Octo, Ome, DJ Saint Vincent and Los Angeles DJ Stewart playing lounge, club and underground sounds.
International guest DJs at Bangkok clubs must be the best and the Bed and Supper Club Bangkok delivers exactly that! UK’s renowned radio host, producer, dance-music DJ Judge Jules; San Francisco producer & deep-house DJ Miguel Migs; American record producer & electroclash master DJ Felix da Housecat, Martin Solveig, Charles Schillings, Laidback Luke, Smokin Jo, Kenny Dope and Finnish producer & DJ Jori Hulkkonen.
A sampling of events at the bed and supper club Bangkok
Every weekend the Bed Club Bangkok choreographs acts, performers and live entertainers as well as resident and guest DJs. One of the 2012 events that the club featured included the wildly successful German DJ duo Booka Shade (Walter Merziger & Arno Kammermeier) who tour the world with their contagious electronic music.
As a taste of what a night at the Bed might offer, here’s a look at one week’s schedule: Monday may be closed for a private event (or it may be a Mashup Monday), then on Tuesday Grey Goose Vodka sponsors a live concert called Nouvelle Vague Night by French duo Jul & Co that includes a combination of instrument music with keyboards, trumpet, drums, flute, talk-box singing and live DJing with laptops. On Wednesday there’s Rumba Caliente with Afro & Latin rhythms as well as the Models Night party with DJs Mikey Mike, Eddy Frampton and Num T-Bone with Latin house & catwalk beats. On Thursday it’s Booka Shade and a presentation sponsored by Bacardi called Check Into Rehab with edgy electro, nu disco and mash up dancing stating at 10pm. Friday night, DJ Octo delivers a mix of R&B and hip-hop, and DJ Fred Jungo’s spins Strictly Business. Saturday is divided into two parties: Nu Saturday with DJs Orawan, Knatz and Andrea Bertrand plus DJ Fred Jungo’s dance beats that promise to “tie you up on the dance floor”. Partying continues with Confidential Sundays featuring DJs Fred Jungo, Benz, Tommy and Hunge. Cover charges range between 600 and 800 baht, which includes 2 drinks. It’s possible to take advantage of free entry specials from 7 - 10pm.
Private parties at Bed Club Bangkok
Organizing corporate nightlife in Bangkok can be challenging. The Bed Supperclub offers a way to incorporate tasteful Sukhumvit nightlife into a company event, business dinner, product launch or press conference. The all-white interior can be converted “virtually” into any atmosphere including backgrounds for photo shoots and filming commercials. It’s also a funky place for a hen do, bachelor party or an avant-garde wedding reception.
Getting to the Bed Supperclub and nearby hotspots is easy if you have the latest Bangkok nightlife map or mobile app. Bed is situated less than 100 meters from Le Fenix Hotel (where Bangkok nightlife for couples unfolds at the Nest rooftop lounge), and seconds away from Q Bar. Other clubs and bars in Bangkok Sukhumvit district include Glow, Narz (in a mansion on Sukhumvit Soi 23), and BarSu at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.
