Restaurant L’Oucomballa, next to Santa Maria del Mar church, is a romantic hideaway with intimate corners of dark wood surrounded by terracotta walls, antique mirrors and twisting candelabras that cast a glow over wine and fusion-style Catalán-Mediterranean dishes that combine bits of Greek, Italian, French, Spanish-Catalán cuisine with hints of North African, Indian and Asian fare. L’Oucomballa is a simple Catalan phrase: l’ou com balla meaning “the egg that dances”, referring to the tradition of placing an egg on the spouting fountain jet in the Casa de l’Ardíaca – the 12th century Archdeacon’s house near the Gothic church beside the restaurant – (and throughout Barcelona during the Corpus Christi festival) and watching the egg dance suspended in the water.

Sip N Bite is a little place in the heart of Gurgaon Haryana India - about 30 km. from Delhi. It stands out from other places in the Qutub Plaza complex because it’s cozy, casual & offers good value. There’s a crepe corner, called “Holy Crepe” with a fairytale arch that lends innocent charm to the place, but Sip N Bite isn’t just about fresh crepes. It serves Chinese, Indian, & continental dishes like sizzlers, all prepared in an open kitchen while you watch. And, each page of the menu has a tidbit of food history, like the accidental discovery of tea and how chocolate was first made; a nice read while waiting for an order. The downside is that there’s no alcohol, not even wine. Sip N Bite Restaurant in Gurgaon is located in Qutub Plaza DLF phase 1 opposite Icic Bank.
A friend’s recommendation took us searching for a quaint little place in the by-lanes of McLeod Ganj (a suburb of Dharamshala - Kangra district). After a leisurely stroll from the main chowk along Jogiwara Road, Carpe Diem greeted us with the typical nonchalant air of a laidback hill-station. A narrow entrance and a quick climb up a flight of old-world stairs brought us to an amazing rooftop restaurant where culinary delights and an eclectic ambience coexist. A giant wood-burning oven, surreal murals and Tibetan artifacts provide an overall theme of freedom & peace. And the best part: it’s nestled amidst a breathtaking Himalayan panorama. McLeodganj, known as Little Lhasa, sits in the clouds at over 2,000m, with White Mountain (over 5,000m) towering behind it.
